Gheorghe Savin şi-a dedicat peste 50 de ani viticulturii. Cel care i-a insuflat dragostea pentru viţa-de-vie a fost profesorul său Mihail Juraveli.
În 1980, cei doi au început să lucreze la primul soi de struguri rezistent la ger şi la diferite boli. După zece ani de cercetări şi încercări, au reuşit să obţină renumitul soi denumit „Moldova”.
„La struguri, exact ca şi la conceperea copiilor, există mama şi tata. Unul din părinţi pentru soiul Moldova noi l-am adus din Asia Mijlocie, noi am adus de fapt o colecţie, am făcut cercetări şi unul l-am luat ca donator mamă. Iar tată am luat polen de la nişte specii sălbatice, de origine franceză”, a declarat Gheorghe Savin, creatorul soiului de struguri „Moldova”.
În 1990, în ţara noastră au fost plantate primele 14 hectare de struguri „Moldova”, care au şi rodit. Ideea de a numi soiul „Moldova” le-a venit tot viticultorilor.
„Mereu trebuie să îţi respecţi părinţii, casa părintească, de aceea, în semn de recunoştinţă pentru plaiul natal, noi ne-am consultat şi cu domnul Juraveli şi el a fost de acord să-l numim „Moldova”, a precizat Gheorghe Savin.
Printre soiurile create de Gheorghe Savin se mai numără şi: Aperen roz, Aperen negru de Grozeşti, Aperen roz basarabean, dar şi Aperen alb.
Cercetătorul mai spune că, în total, la Institutul de Viticultură şi Vinificaţie, acolo unde îşi desfăşoară activitatea de zeci de ani, au fost create peste trei mii de soiuri de struguri. Unele dintre acestea pot fi întâlnite chiar şi în Africa de Sud.

In 1980, the two began working on the first grape variety resistant to frost and various diseases. After ten years of research and trials, they succeeded in obtaining the famous variety called „Moldova”.
„In grapes, just like in the conception of children, there is a mother and a father. We brought one of the parents for the Moldova variety from Central Asia, we actually brought a collection, we did research and we took one as a mother donor. And for the father, we took pollen from some wild species, of French origin,” said Gheorghe Savin, the creator of the „Moldova” grape variety.
In 1990, the first 14 hectares of „Moldova” grapes were planted in our country, which bore fruit. The idea of naming the variety „Moldova” also came to the winegrowers.
„You always have to respect your parents, your parental home, that’s why, as a sign of gratitude for your native land, we also consulted with Mr. Juraveli and he agreed to call it „Moldova”, Gheorghe Savin said.
Among the varieties created by Gheorghe Savin are also: Pink Aperen, Black Aperen of Grozeşti, Pink Aperen of Bessarabian, and White Aperen.
The researcher also says that, in total, over three thousand grape varieties have been created at the Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, where he has been working for decades. Some of these can even be found in South Africa.

Георге Савин посвятил виноградарству более 50 лет своей жизни. Любовь к виноградной лозе ему привил учитель Михаил Джуравели.
В 1980 году они вдвоем начали работу над первым сортом винограда, устойчивым к заморозкам и различным болезням. После десяти лет исследований и испытаний им удалось получить знаменитый сорт под названием «Молдова».
«В винограде, как и в зачатии ребенка, есть мать и отец. Мы привезли одного из родителей сорта «Молдова» из Центральной Азии, фактически, мы привезли коллекцию, провели исследования и взяли одного из них в качестве материнского растения-донора. А в качестве отца мы взяли пыльцу с некоторых диких видов французского происхождения», — сказал Георге Савин, создатель сорта винограда «Молдова».
В 1990 году в нашей стране были высажены первые 14 гектаров винограда сорта «Молдова», которые и принесли плоды. Идея назвать сорт «Молдова» пришла в голову и виноградарям.
«Всегда нужно уважать своих родителей, свой родительский дом, поэтому в знак благодарности за родину мы также посоветовались с господином Джуравели, и он согласился назвать это место «Молдова», — сказал Георге Савин.
Среди сортов, созданных Георге Савином, также можно выделить: розовый аперен, черный аперен из Грозешти, розовый аперен из Бессарабии и белый аперен.
Исследователь также утверждает, что в общей сложности в Институте виноградарства и виноделия, где он работает уже несколько десятилетий, было выведено более трех тысяч сортов винограда. Некоторые из них даже встречаются в Южной Африке.
